Maggie strives to realise her vision of a shared community of friends living out their years in companionship and harmony on the Welsh Borders. But as the saying goes, life happens when you’re busy making other plans and she hasn’t reckoned on the dark secrets, the rivalries, the exes and the wayward offspring that her housemates have accumulated over the decades.
A funny and thoughtful story about age, loneliness and love which shows that growing old isn’t always the same as growing up.

I can't find the words to clearly explain how delighted, and surprised, I was to discover that this book was so good! If you are a fan of BBC series set in the English (in this case Welsh) countryside, with interesting but everyday people - no superheros, no vampires, etc - and just cleverly woven day to day drama, you'll enjoy this book.Maggie, a woman of a certain age, inherits a country property in pretty bad shape, but dreams of renovating it into an assortment of apartments and forming a shared-living community of sorts. Not exactly a commune but not quite just house sharing, and not quite a condo-development either. She pitches the idea to her group of friends - other women of a certain age like her, and a few are interested and a few think she's kind of crazy.
She goes ahead and her first sale of one of the apartments is actually to a semi-stranger, then to one of her group of friends, and finally another before the story shifts entirely to the small forming community of house-dwellers. We see the micro community forming, with some additions as the remaining units take on occupants. Finally the story transitions to the people and less about the house and finding tenants. Even Maggie begins to take a step back from the central character she was at the start, while other characters take on focus, but each character drives the plot along each in their own way. Christmas becomes the finale as the 'first year of the Foxwood Community' draws to a close, leaving a lovely "open ending" that stimulates the imagination as to what comes next.
It is REALLY well done. A few editing slips here and there, but nothing terribly egregious and nothing more than what can slip by even traditional publishing editors these days (at least that's my opinion). If there is a sequel, I will be snapping it up without second thoughts. If there was a TV version, I would definitely find it the kind of show that I'd set aside time for.

Living Space The First Year of the Foxwood Community edition by Jan Marsh David Jones Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
I really enjoyed the characters in this book, looking forward to the next installment!
written well in time frame
This first book got me hooked and I bought the second and then the third. Read all three is under 2 weeks.
A sweet story of life in a senior citizen community. Ignore the grammar mistakes and it is a fun read.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and felt it was a relaxing read, and the characters became people that I thought I knew, I loved the idea of the story and enjoyed it so much, I have now started the follow up book. A good read, and well written. I hope to see more of this authors books.
I really enjoyed this book and all the characters in it. A good editor would have helped a good book be great. I was distracted by the many errors that interrupted the flow of sentences and made me have to stop and re read to make sure I got the gist of what was being said. Even so, I enjoyed it very much.
It seemed interesting to me a group of mature friends, a huge old home, an idea A community home where each has his/her own apartment, but shares time and events together as they wish. Each person chooses the style of their apartment, and furnishings, and brings with them what they wish from their previous life. They share everyday chores, but can keep to the privacy of their homes if they wish.
Can a group of quite different older people make this work? Some of these are longtime friends, women...and as others buy apartments and join the group, shifts in the friendships might make old ties weaker or stronger.
This story is very interesting and I enjoyed the beginning when it was all a plan...then as each woman sold her old home and moved in, I was fascinated by new ties being formed, old friendships changing course but holding true. The men who chose to move in are interesting and of course, add to the group in their own ways. It is a very good story.
Yes I saw some mistakes that could be edited...but there were few of those. And not bothersome.
I hope Jan Marsh continues what seems like a wonderful series. I look forward to the next book.
