Congratulations on a lovely book. I most enjoyed your characterization skills. Joe is a wonderful hero, strong, caring, inventive, touched by spirit. You give him a large cast of characters with which to interact, and he manages the relationships with all of them with love and intelligence. I would love to read more about this character, but then I wonder how you could actually pull that off because of his development in this book? That is beside the point of course. Not a criticism. It merely shows my involvement with the character that I want to know what he does next.

I read this first book in Rita Dear's series. The story was interesting, fast-moving and entertaining. I couldn't put it down. When I got to the last page, I immediately contacted the author to buy the next books in the series to find out what was going to happen next to the endearing characters that I had grown to know and love from the great descriptions provided for the reader. Each character's personality came to life and I wanted to know each one of them better. I felt a connection with many of the characters from my own life experiences. So many of the townspeople were just the kind of friends and neighbors that take care of one another and will go out of their way to be a good friend. That's the kind of community that leaves one with a great feeling.
I bought Preacher Man at a Plano Craft Fair where I met the author Rita Dear for the first time. I let my Mom read it first and she really enjoyed it. After I read the book I was hooked. For Mother's Day, I called Rita and My Mom and I had lunch with Rita and I bought the rest of the series. Mom read the entire series in less than a month. I am starting book 12 tonight. I love this series and can't wait until book 13 is finished. I'm thrilled they are on because my family and friends can get them there. I think I'll call Rita when 13 is ready and I will buy lunch this time. Keep creating Rita, you are bringing a lot of readers joy. Oh, by the way, I was reading one of the books while I was waiting at the cancer center for my bone scan and two of your other readers noticed and we started a conversation about you and your books. They have read through book 11 and the man's father had read through book 12. Small world and your books are bringing us together.
If you haven't read any of the Eutopian Destiny series, you are truly missing out. I read all the time and I must say that Rita Dear is a truly gifted writer. I picked up the book and from page one I was hooked and didn't want to put it down. WOW! There was so much going on that it kept my attention all the way to the end and I certainly wasn't expecting the ending I got. Usually you can guess the way a book will end (I know I do) but I can definitely say I didn't see this one coming!

I found it very refreshing to pick up a book, read a great story and not have it full of explicit sexual romps and foul language. Can't wait to start Book 2.

Thank you Rita Dear, you are definitely a God send
As an avid reader of mystery fiction for many years, it is always refreshing to find an author who still is able to deliver a engaging story without falling into the all too easy, over the top,, sex generated story lines that sometimes take over the mystery genre. Ms. Dear keeps it real, authentic and topical without going beyond comfort levels for most readers. Her characters are interesting, intriguing, and very well developed. This is the first I have read of this author but am looking forward to all that she has to give. I would highly recommend anyone looking for their summer reading list choices to add Rita Dear to their list.
I'm amazed by the number of pieces Rita Dear has put into this puzzle.

She had many poignant moments in the book.

She says she'll hook a reader. In my words, she pulls our heartstrings. It takes a writer with a good heart to make a heart-to-heart connection with her readers.

A third strength I see in this book is the ethics of the good people in her story. The Preacher Man himself is a wonderful addition to the community of Eutopian Springs.

Three things you'll like about reading this book are 1) the complexity of her storytelling, 2) the poignant moments, and 3) the good people in her novel.

Finally, I enjoyed reading this book at night, leaving the world of my cares to enter the world created by this author.
I have read Rita Dear's complete (so far)Eutopian Destiny series and recommend it for some very thrilling reading. It has excitement, suspense, romance and more; so much so that it makes you want to have the next book ready to start reading after you have turned the last page. It reminds me of the Saturday serials that kept us in our seats at the local movie theater and waiting with anticipation for the next week's installment. I especially like the fact that the little bad language there is, is not gratuitous and sex is held private between husband and wife.
The series follows an undercover INS agent as he investigates a sex slave smuggling ring in a small town in New Mexico. Each book leads to another investigation that the team works on with stealth and cunning.
Be sure to read the first book, Preacher Man, so that you will be hooked and want to read the next book and the next and the next...
PREACHER MAN is a wonderful read. It was very suspenseful and hard to put down. I loved the setting and all the characters. Joe, the main character, is the ideal hero, a real uniter, as well as at the top of his game as an INS undercover agent. His cohorts are extremely good as well. I especially like the fact that although, the plot involves the sex slave trade,there is only a little mild profanity, and absolutely no explicit sex in the book. Readers get to use their imaginations! I can't wait to read the rest of the series.
