A murder in a small Colorado town, peaks the interest of private investigator, Teague Donovan. It closely resembles the murder of his high school friend and first love thirty years earlier. His guilt at not being able to prevent the death of his friend, motivates him to dig into the crime. What he isn't prepared for is the immovable object that is detective Hoyt Newman, the lead on the case. It is big city meets small town with some ego thrown in for good measure.
The mystery is fairly standard, with several mysteries intertwined. What is great about this story, is the relationship between the two men. Both are in their 40's which is not common in this genre. They are both settled, mature and stubborn. This makes the relationship believable, interesting, and very romantic.
Actually, I'm giving this 4.5 stars because the relationship is that good. I needed to add that there are some proof reading mistakes, but it did not take away from the enjoyment. I know some who read are real sticklers on that, but I tend to be more relaxed about it.

First I want to start by saying if you have not read Edward Kendrick's books you must! His characters are so well developed in each book, I fall for each of them every time. His writing style is amazing, I get swept up in the story from page one to the end. I love the romance, the action and the mystery in each book. I hope to someday learn how to be half as great as a writer as he is.

A shout out to Edward Kendrick - another amazingly written book. When I first read the description I was hooked, I love a good mystery but this book is beyond that, I love a sexy romance and this one delivers that and some, I love a book with amazing characters and this one has that in spades.
Teague Donovan won't take no for a answer when he starts to delve into a recent murder that looks suspiciously like the one from 30 years ago that he found out recently was his best friend Chris from back home. He won't stop until he gets answers. I love his character because he fights tooth and nail to put his best friend's murder to rest, he blames himself for Chris's murder although he tried his hardest to get Chris to stay home and not run away from the hatred of his family. Teague is a stand up guy, sexy as hell and a top notch investigator. Hoyt is a grumpy at times, hard nosed country cop that doesn't want to entertain Teagues theories, he just wants to stop the murders from happening in his small town and move on but Teague doesn't give up that easily and Hoyt realizes teague might have something worth listening too.
I thought these two characters worked well together but what I loved was the tension and sexual awareness between them but them not wanting to delve into something that would only end in heartbreak when Teague went back home. I loved that they wanted more but refused to give in until they couldnt help a simple kiss or a soft caress. Wow these guys are perfect for each other, I love the fight of not wanting to give up on each other. I also loved Keir, he's witty, sweet and a total match maker when he pushes Hoyt and Teague into sharing their feelings for each other and acting on them.
This story takes you on a wild ride of who done it, who else was involved and why the hell did it all happen. I loved the intrigue, it kept me on my toes from the beginning and the shoot outs (wow!). but of course what I loved the most (I'm a sucker for a sexy romance) was the characters need for each other, the sizzling kisses and so much more...So sexy.
Chris Frye was murdered when he was just a teenager, leaving his small home town and the even smaller minds of his relatives behind. He died at the hands of a serial killer who killed 3 young men in a horrible manner. 20+ years his childhood best friend, Teague Donovan, now a private investigator has not come to terms with the death of his friend when the killer seems to strike again. Traveling to the town of the latest murder he encounters Detective Hoyt Newman who does not believe in a killer who seems to be continuing a decades old killing spree. But when another murder happens Detective Newman will do anything to keep more homeless boys from being killed, even work with a city PI. Soon Teague and Hoyt are drawn together by more than their shared interest in solving the case. Theirs could be a great relationship if they weren’t two men in their mid-40s with good jobs and lives 800 miles apart.
Interesting story, good read. There was a lot of discussion about the feasibility of a relationship before anything even happened, but I enjoyed reading a romance about two grown up settled men.
Enjoyable read
A good story line, if a bit macabre in some details, and good character development. Bonus points for a story where the MCs were not 20-something and dealt with some of the daily realities of life as an adult.
